ICYMI: Dan Duquette MLB Network Radio Interview
Things got a little crazy last night. We learned that Dan Duquette is being considered for a job with the Blue Jays, and that there’s at least a chance he’d take it. There are all sorts of hurdles in the way, not the least of which is that the story is being largely “reported” via social media, but this story appears to have legs. There is definitely smoke to go with the fire.
The story broke while Duquette (and the Orioles beat reprting corps) were on the plane to the MLB Winter Meetings in San Diego. After we were told that Duquette would not be available to the media until the following day, Duquette appeared on MLB Network Radio, where hosts Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette (yes, that one) tried to ask the same question in as many ways as possible:
Are you leaving the Orioles to take the job in Toronto?
Hey, you have to give him credit. The MLB employees did their best to act like journalists, and they even copped to it afterward. Unsurprisingly, Dan Duquette was not very forthcoming, but during the Winter Meetings, fans should expect that GMs will lie to their faces, so what’s new? Here is the full interview:
More will clearly be coming on this story, but for the time being, all Orioles fans can do is wait and hope. Hope that a division rival doesn’t steal away the 2014 MLB Executive of the Year, and hope that, among all the drama, someone remembers that they’re in San Diego to make the Orioles better.
