Don’t Be ‘That Guy’
After watching the end of the Ravens game today (yuck, blech, ugh), I realized that the post-Superbowl sucks are probably upon us, and that Baltimore should settle in for a rough season – on the field, and among the fan base. In keeping with the term “fanatics,” there are going to be a lot of passionate, disappointed Baltimore fans who are going to say very stupid things.
But I want to make this plea: don’t be ‘that guy.’ Don’t be the guy, who after every Ravens’ loss asks “how long until pitchers and catchers report?” That makes me crazy for a number of reasons. First, because this town should know a thing or two about supporting a disappointing team. We have a history of showing a little grace in the face of embarrassment (after embarrassment, after…).
But most of all, don’t be ‘that guy’ because for fourteen years, I hated the assclowns who took to social media after an Orioles’ loss in May to ask “how long until Training Camp starts?”
Remember what I wrote about supporting both teams? It still holds true, but it doesn’t give you the right to bail on one team for the other the moment things go south. One of the reasons we dislike the Boston and New York fan bases is that they’re full of bandwagoners and turncoats. The other edge of that sword is sticking by your teams when the going gets infuriating. Baltimore fans should support its teams, or we’re nothing but hypocrites.
So don’t be ‘that guy.’ Don’t kick Ravens fans while they’re down just because the Orioles have put a couple of good seasons together. Or as Ravens’ PA announcer might put it, “don’t be a jerk!“
