Episode 264: This Season Is Taxing

–                          –                          –

Leading Off

Don’t look now, but these Orioles can be fun at times. Win a few games on the road, and break a record of historic futility or two, and we are riding high! That sounds pretty back-handed when we write it out like that, but trust us: we’ll look back on this time fondly. Soak it up, O’s fans!

The Wine’d Up Podcast

What is it with other Orioles podcasts having much more clever names than us? Look, we’re fine with the quality of the show outpacing our own – we can live with that. But do they all have to be so clever with their titles?

Such is the case with another fine addition to the Orioles podcast community, The Wine’d Up. Hosts Katie and Kyla join us to discuss the show, and put some perspective on whatever this 2019 season has been.

Katie and Kyla mix a few of our favorite things: an association of friends and family with Orioles Baseball, self-deprecating humor, and a little grape juice to get the conversation flowing. Please go check them out and follow them on Twtter @OsWinedUp.

Taxation without a Standing Ovation

Now that the tax deadline is upon us, we wonder what jut how taxing it is to be an Orioles fan in 2019. What taxes are levied on the fans by the ballclub? Are there any fan tax breaks? We’ll put you into fan tax brackets, and advise you of your expected depreciation.

Note: none of the absolute nonsense you’re about to hear should be misconstrued for legal advice, tax expertise, or lucid thought.

Fantasy Boss

Jake is now out to a commanding 2-0 lead, after correctly guessing that Jonathan “Trade Value” Villar would out xwOBA Joey Rickard. We’ve gone complicated, so Scott has pulled something a little more “traditional” out of his bag of Fantasy Boss tricks…

This week’s category: runs. And we won’t accept “The Taco Bell Lineup.”

Jake’s pick: Renato Nuuuuuuuuuuunez

Scott’s pick: Jonathan “Trade Value” Villar

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
