Leading Off
As excitement for the MLB First Year Player Draft swirls around us, this is an unusually odd episode of Bird’s Eye View. With Scott away this week, Matt Taylor of Roar From 34 steps up to the plate (mostly to ensure that Jake is not some crazy person talking to himself on the internet).
The news of the day is Adley Rutschman. And that this team is very bad.

Around the Bases
First Base: The Draft
It’s official: the Orioles drafted Adley Rutschman first overall. This looks suspiciously like a good move – or, at least, a move every other team in baseball would make. At this point, that is an achievement in itself.
Second Base: Friday’s Game
With all the ugly games there have been this season, we should treat ourselves, sometimes. That game was simply too fun not to discuss.
Third Base: Roster Moves
What should we think of the Cisco move? Could Mountcastle be on the way soon? Is DJ Stewart a cautionary tale.
Home Plate: 2018 vs. 2019
Jake and Matt take a moment to reflect on which season resulted in more tears. Which season has been your least favorite?
Freaky Friday
This one is directly from the imagination of Matt Taylor:“If you could add any player from Orioles history to this year’s team, who would it be?”
We discuss the best players and the best entertainers in franchise history.

Blowing the Save
Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.

Late to the game on this, but here it goes. Re. Freaky Friday… I am no professional podcaster, so I cannot possibly come up with *3* examples of former Orioles to bring back. But I do have a pair of suggestions that were not mentioned in the show that I’d like to present for your approval, or lack thereof.
One thing the Orioles lack right now is a “face of the franchise” ballplayer, someone to adorn the billboards along I-95 and the cover of the game-day magazines. The guy who you look at and say, “Yes, this man truly *is* the 2019 Baltimore Orioles. To that end, I recommend the return of Felix “Key Lime” Pie.
There has been an effort to protect Chris Davis from facing lefthanders, so what we need is a right-handed power-hitting first baseman to complement our beloved Crush. And so that we stay true to the theme of our 2019 season, this man must also be someone the Orioles bet on big and lost, someone who broke the collective hearts of Baltimore, and someone, yes, someone surnamed Davis. I humbly suggest the return of Glenn Davis to Birdland.
