Leading Off
Oh hey, we have a podcast! After weeks of vacation, we return to the microphones, and to the absurdity that is Bird’s Eye View. Strap in, listesners – this one was self-referential, prone to tangents, and surprisingly chipper considering that we’re talking about a 27-62 baseball team.

So Boog Powell and Renato Nunez are the only #orioles to hit 20 home runs before the All-Star break while age 25 or younger. Those 2 guys.

Around the Bases
It’s been a while, so we get back in the saddle with a little podcasting comfort food: an Around the Bases for the week that was in Orioles Baseball:
First Base: Legitimately Good Things!
In 2019, we have had to generate a fair amount of excitement, and spread our fandom pretty thin. But over the past couple of weeks, there have been a number of good things Birdland. Here’s a rundown:
- Offensive explosion in Cleveland
- Series win against the Blue Jays
- Draft – soooo many picks have signed
- J2 Draft – we… actually did stuff, and stuff
- Givens Play
- Adley Rutschman (et al) to Aberdeen
Second Base: OK, but really… Anthony Santander?
Jake asks (for the millionth time) as to whether Anthony Santander can possibly be a useful MLB player. Spoiler alert, everyone is going to be disappointed by the result.
Third Base: Fun Stories, Tom Eshelman Edition
Jake recounts his emotional roller coaster, watching Tom Eshelman pitching, including the shame of being dunked on by Jim Palmer on Twitter.
Home Plate: Mea Culpa
Scott gets emotional, Jake fails to get analytical. As “things get weird on Bird’s Eye View” goes, it’s pretty tame. But… YMMV.
Fantasy Boss
Jake won this past week for out-Dongs-After-Darking Scott (Jonathan Villar vs. Hanser Alberto), and takes the lead by a score of 6-3-1. Scott chose a very simple category for this week’s shortened Fantasy Boss:
TRUE OR FALSE: John Means will make an appearance in the 2019 All-Star Game.
After reminding himself that Cito Gaston is still alive, and that MLB is not yet satisfied with the amount of MASN money the team is paying out to the Nationals, Jake took FALSE, so Scott was left with TRUE.
Who will own it?
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Who had a great week? Who had a tough week? Who made us ashamed to be Orioles fans? Find out in this week’s GB&U. The guys run through their Good, Bad, and Ugly for the week.

Blowing the Save
Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
