Right-hander Kevin Gausman is headed to the Cincinnati Reds, sources tell ESPN. He was claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves. The 28-year-old has one more season remaining until he hits free agency following 2020 though could be a non-tender candidate this winter.

Chris used, to be an All-Star
Now he just can, not play.
He swings, and always misses
It’s a sad sight, to see.And all that money is gone.
Paid to him in full, big contract… https://t.co/K4F2GcKwKb— Andrew Stetka (@AStetka) August 8, 2019

Around the Bases
We take a look at the week that was in Orioles Baseball, and make some stunning realizations. Not really, but, you know… stuff.
First Base: What does a quiet trade deadline tell us about the Orioles’ organizational approach?
You should read another excellent article from Jon Meoli in which he goes one-on-one with Mike Elias. It’s worth reading and we won’t spoil it, but we pulled out a nugget that was simply too tempting not to discuss.
Second Base: Good things CAN happen in Baltimore!
The Orioles played like a .500 team for a brief period of time. This made us happy. There were good things that happened! Jonathan Villar increased his trade value by hitting for the cycle. Rio Ruiz brought us peak Jim Hunter, by hitting a walk-off against the Astros… life was goodish.
Third Base: Scott may be starting to come around on the Anthony Santander question.
Santander turned in another good week, and since last we were in your ear holes, picked up an international fan club. Maybe there’s more to him than a fancy name change, after all!
Home Plate: The Orioles are so, so, so, so bad.
This team is bad. Make no mistake, they are bad. Hope not, for they are bad.
You Said WHAT?!
What else is there to say about the literal kerfuffle that took place between Chris Davis and Brandon Hyde? Much internet space and newspaper ink has been spilled on the topic. So naturally, we put our own special spin on it. Stupid, stupid spin.
So, what do YOU think got said? Let us know by tweeting us your suggestions @birdseyeviewbal with the hashtag #YouSaidWHAT.
Fantasy Boss
Jake won again, taking the score to 8-5-1. Jonathan Trade Value Villar out-walked Renato Nunez by ta count of 6-3. Scott selected OBP as this week’s category. Jake picked “The Committee” (Hanser Alberto) and Scott went with Boom Boom (Trey Mancini).
Who will own it?

Blowing the Save
Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
