Episode 278: Fan Card

–                          –                          –

Leading Off

Well, there were five Orioles games this week. We hope you enjoyed the two that were enjoyable. One of the series this week included games with the Washington Nationals… can we just admit to ourselves that this is not a rivalry? We go through this every time!

The Orioles are their own worst enemy at the moment. They don’t need anyone else.

This Week on the Twitters

Here is what is happening in the world of Orioles Baseball, in 280 characters, or fewer:

Around the Bases

First Base: Expanded Rosters

Mark Trumbo makes his triumphant return, and we meh so hard. Also, we’re not sure that Mason Williams is a real person. The notable exception was Ryan Mountcastle… why in the name of the land is Ryan Mountcastle not getting a chance to play on the worst baseball team in the history of worstness?

Second Base: Remember when an Orioles/Royals series mattered?

There is no more painful reminder that the Orioles are not relevant anymore than watching a rematch of the 2014 ALCS go by with nothing more than a yawn. Also, Summer Song still makes Jake sad. Like, really sad.

Third Base: Minor League affiliates making the playoffs.

Delmarva and Bowie both have made the Minor League playoffs. The CGL Orioles also played very well. Is there any reason that we should care?

Home Plate: Is Trey Mancini dead to you?

Scott asks a dangerous question, and the answer may surprise you.

Fan Card

Scott made a reference, and some people… missed the joke:

… which was absurd on so many levels. But it got me to wondering… If people able simply to say “that’s it, I’m turning in my Fan Card… shouldn’t that have been done by now? There have been so many opportunities to turn in your Fan Card.

We reviewed a few. Join us for the “fun,” and send us your low fan moments – tweet us @birdseyeviewbal.

Fantasy Boss

No one beats Jake in a dong-a-thon. Well, not really. But he won this week. Anthony Santader hit three out of the park, and Scott’s pick, Trey Macnini, hit none. The score is now a commanding 9-6-1, and we go to an either/or:

Scott wants to know who will have a better wRC+ this season: Chris Davis or Mark Trumbo.

Jake went with Trumbo. Scott was stuck with Davis.

Who will own it?

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
