This Week on the Twitters

Around the Bases

First Base: Playing Spoiler is no fun.

We have discussed the merits of the 2011 Andino game at length, but Jake goes further to say that there is no redeeming quality to being part of a meaningful game unless it is also meaningful for you. Scott tried to inject some logic into the proceedings, but… when has that worked?

Second Base: Awards Season

Cedric Mullins is hands-down the only choice for Most Valuable Oriole (MVO). With that settled, we look ahead to other awards and which Orioles may factor in the discussion.

Third Base: Hyde and Keep

The Orioles are going to keep their manager, as it was announced that a “previously unreported” deal was inked last offseason that will keep Hyde in the organization at least through the end of 2022. We wonder aloud when it’s time to actually start evaluating him as a major league manager. The guy hasn’t had a major league club to manage, so it’s been hard thus far.

Home Plate: Fun Fact!

Did you know that Yankee Gleyber Torres does not have a HR against the Orioles since 2019? We did. We also know why that is the case. It’s really quite simple, once you consider the component that has been missing in that time.

The Drunk Gary Thorne 2.0

Being an Orioles fan can be a taxing prospect. To take the edge off, it’s sometimes best to “enjoy” your Orioles Baseball with a beverage. This is the reason we start every show with The Drink of the Week.

As early as July 2013, we started imagining the Perfect Orioles drink, and lovingly dubbed it “The Drunk Gary Thorne.”

Well, Gary is no longer with the team. Much of the fun of 2013 is no longer with the team. And so, it is time to come up with new ideas for Orioles-themed drinks.

It is our hope, dear listener, that you too will pitch in and recommend your finest Orioles cocktails. Until then, please enjoy these recommendations:

Fantasy Boss

Jake won Fantasy Boss this week, having correctly guessed that Keegan Akin would tally more IP (6.0) than Scott’s pick, Chad Ellis (5.0).

Going into the final Fantasy Boss contest, the score is 9-8 in Jake’s favor. To ensure that we’re playing meaningful games in September, we have decided to play a two-point game this week.

Scott selected the category of wOBA, and eliminated Cedric Mullins from contention. Each FB player selected two Orioles, and two Fantasy Boss points will be awarded, meaning that Scott could potentially sweep the contest, and win his first ever Fantasy Boss title!

Jake took Ryan Mountcastle and Trey Mancini.

Scott selected Austin Hays and Jahmai Jones.

Who will own it?

Who had a great week? Who had a tough week? Who made us ashamed to be Orioles fans? Find out in this week’s GB&U. The guys run through their Good, Bad, and Ugly for the week.

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
