Episode 338: Forearm and Seven Years Ago

Leading Off

Five games of the 2022 season are in the books, and as is our nature, we take the time to overreact to what we saw, while chiding others for drawing conclusions on a small sample size. Welcome to Bird’s Eye View.

Around the Bases

First Base: Opening Day Review

We attended the Orioles’ home opener, and had a great time.

Second Base: Small Sample Size, Small Sample Sample Size…

There are only five games in the books. When do we start jumping to conclusions? When do we decide the things that feel real ARE real?

Third Base: Second Base: It hasn’t been… that bad.

The only thing that matters in professional sports is the win/loss column. There are no moral victories. That having been said, the Orioles’ 1-4 record does not show the positives we’ve seen so far. Sure, we don’t like losing, but there are some things to like.

Home Plate: Reinvestment and Reimagination

Much as the Orioles roster and organization have gone through a “reinvestment and reorganization,” John Angelos used those words to describe a $600MM commitment by the State of Maryland for infrastructure improvements to Camden Yards. The hope is that this will help convince the team (and the Ravens, who also got $600MM) to stay beyond their current leases.

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
