Episode 350: Eh OK

Leading Off

We get together on an off-day after one of the more disappointing series in recent Orioles history. But, hey: at least you get both BEV hosts in this one?

This Week on the Twitters

Is it Over?

Let’s not beat around the bush: the Orioles had the opportunity to leapfrog the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL Wild Card race. Instead, they ended the series 4.5 games out.

So, when it comes to playoff chances… is it over for the Baltimore Orioles?

Around the Bases

We go Around the Bases to review this week in Orioles Baseball:

First Base: What would it take?

The Orioles and the Jays had a pretend push-fight this week. And then Jays fans got a little spicy on the internet. But what would it take for Baltimore/Toronto to turn into a real rivalry? It takes good teams and a heightened emotions – but is that enough?

Second Base: Minor Labor Battles

The MLBPA is going to represent Minor League baseball players. Whereas this is a decidedly Good Thing (TM), there will be a cost. And if big businesses (like the $10B behemoth that is MLB) know one thing, it’s how to pass additional costs onto their consumers.

So what is it going to cost fans like you and me to get minor league baseball players treated like people?

Third Base: The Shell Game

The Orioles are making moves. 26 roster moves since September 1, at the very least. So what stands out as meaningful or weird?

Home Plate: About the offense…

The Orioles would like to score more runs. But where is that going to come from? We look at the regulars and ask ourselves who has to go (and be replaced) in order for the team to be more productive in the box score.

Fantasy Boss

Scott took this week, and stretches his lead to 5-3. Guest host Alan Smith tried his best to screw Scott, but Jake wasn’t having it. Dummy.

Scott went back to DONGS.

Jake took Ryan Mountcastle, and Scott went with Anthony Santander.

Who will own it?

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
