Episode 352: The Wonderful Thing About Tigers

Leading Off

There is so little season left, but this team is going to make us pay attention, right to the end. The 2022 Orioles are fun. Really fun.

This Week on the Twitters

Around the Bases

We go Around the Bases to review this week in Orioles Baseball:

First Base: Is there something in the water?

Orioles starting pitching has been incredible this week. If you thought Jordan Lyles was impressive, then you should have seen Kyle Bradish. Not impressed by Kyle Bradish? You should have seen Dean Kremer. Starting pitching was exciting this week.

Second Base: What is it about Detroit?

Why do the 2022 Tigers have the 2022 Orioles’ number? s there something about this particular team that explains why they dominate the O’s, or is this a bit of weird small sample size business?

Third Base: Say Something Nice

We’ve said the season is (competitively) over. We’ve said a lot of things. But we don’t want to be confused for being negative. So we go out of our way to say some nice things about the Orioles:

  • Jorge Mateo is truly special
  • Gunnar Henderson has been better than advertized
  • Adley Rutschman doesn’t even look like a rookie
  • Pitching we weren’t planning on has been fantastic
  • Rookies (Stowers and Vavra) have made an impact, recently

Home Plate: Does Fort McHenry still overlook Baltimore Harbor?

The Angelos family has reportedly hired Goldman Saks to help assess the market for a potential sale of the franchise.

Do we… think this will happen? Is this bad? Does a sale necessarily mean a relocation? Can you find Nashville on a map?

Experiences at the Yard

Scott and Jake went to separate games at OPACY this week, and we’re dying to talk about them. Is there anything better than seeing the Orioles play meaningful baseball at the stadium that forever changed baseball?

Fantasy Boss

Jake ties the score at 5-5! Fantasy boss gets just as tight as the AL Wild Card race. OK, it’s tighter, but Orioles’ fans have to pretend.

Jake’s pick (Adley Rutschman) out OPS’d Scott’s pick (Cedric Mullins) in their at bats against LHP.

With the 2022 Fantasy Boss title in the balance, the guys go with a high-minded stat: will the Orioles have a positive or negative run differential in their remaining schedule?

Jake took the negative, whereas Scott was left with the positive.

What happens if it’s tied? The guys agreed on a tie-breaker of DONGS – Jake took Gunnar Henderson and Scott took Ryan Mountcastle.

If it’s tied after that… we don’t know. Maybe we’ll resort to a coin-flip.

Who will own it?

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
