Leading Off
We’ve arrived at the difficult part of the season. One might even call it the hard part. That is, if a person was not trying to avoid double entendre.

This Week on the Twitters
Around the Bases
First Base: The hard part
No, it’s not the waiting – it’s this stretch of the schedule. May has arrived, and so too has the gauntlet. The Orioles have a tough slate of games in front of them, and we’ll find out how this team compares with some of the best in baseball.
Second Base: Perception and Reality
Bullpen management has certainly been a topic of discussion over the last couple of weeks, and we discuss whether it is a legitimate issue or not. How much of this is the players? How much of it is Brandon Hyde?
OK, now that we’re on the topic of the Muppet-of-a-Manager… how good is Brandon Hyde? How good a manager can a team coming out of a long rebuild be? And if we don’t think he’s great (he’s not great), can he grow into the type of manager a great Orioles team needs?
Lastly, Orioles Twitter: be better. Don’t make this less fun.
Third Base: Media Coverage
No, we’re not talking about the All-New-MASN-App. We discuss the coverage the Orioles received during the ATL series on:
- Atlanta radio
- FOX
- NBC/Peacock
Home Plate: Let ‘er RISP
What is up with the Orioles’ lack of production with runners in scoring position lately? We discuss whether this is a serious concern, or whether this is one of those things that happens to teams (even good ones!) during the course of a long season.
There’s a non-zero chance that if this goes on much longer, we may consider an update to 50 Ways to Strand a Runner. C’mon, O’s. Nobody needs that in their lives.
Fantasy Boss
This week’s Fantasy Boss is a push: neither Jake’s pick (Mountcastle) nor Scott’s (Rutschman) hit a home run this week, so the score remains 4-0.
Since Jake is still the last person who has been beaten, he’ll provide the next category, which will be CLUTCH. As I’m sure all of you playing at home are aware, Clutch = (WPA / pLI) – WPA/LI.
Scott took Adam Frazier and Jake went with Jorge Mateo.
Who will own it?
Who had a great week? Who had a tough week? Who made us ashamed to be Orioles fans? Find out in this week’s GB&U. The guys run through their Good, Bad, and Ugly for the week.

Blowing the Save
Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
