Leading Off
May continues to roll on before us, and the Orioles continue to slay dragons. When the story of the 2023 season is told, this may be one of the most compelling parts of the tale. The setting moves to New York, and we have the opportunity to see what these birds are made of.

This Week on the Twitters
Around the Bases
First Base: A look back at the Toronto series
The Orioles are fresh off an excellent series in Toronto, where they came away with the sweep in exciting fashion. They performed well against a good team which boasted a good starting corps. Surprising performances from the bench and high leverage bullpen success. This team is hella fun.
Second Base: On to New York
This is a very important series in May. Weird, right? The Yankees are always going to be the villain in the Orioles story – regardless of how good or bad either may be. These games represent an important component of the head-to-head record (for playoff seeding), and may feature some of that patented Yankee Devil Magic. A win in NY would be huge for the Orioles.
Third Base: Adleyversary
It’s been a year since Adley Rutschman made his Major League debut. And just so no one is confused: he has ben excellent. In his first 160 games in the bigs, he has amassed:
- 6.7 WAR
- 133 wRC+
- .289 BABIP (pretty standard)
- .271/.400/.435/.835
- 18.1BB% vs 14.3K%
Adley hasn’t been everything that was advertised: he has been so much more.
Home Plate: The excitement is back
Excitement around town (and outside of town) is back, an there is a buzz about the Birds. Now that the Orioles seem to have returned to winning ways, we have the opportunity to see what we’ve been waiting for “if only…”
So wear that orange, Birdland. And wear it with pride.
Fantasy Boss
This week was a push, with both Cedric Mullins and Ryan Mountcastle hitting two dongs. This week, the category is OBP (yeah, you know me).
Jake went with Cedric Mullins and Scott went with Adley Rutschman.

Blowing the Save
Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
