Episode 386: Mood Swings

Leading Off

With a few series under our belt, Bird’s Eye View returns for some it’s-too-early-to-tell caveating. The Jackson Holliday era has begun, but we are just as interested in the other, other kids.

This Week on the Socials

Around the Bases

We go around the bases for the first time here in 2024, for a few topics that won’t get called for obstruction.

First Base: Jackson Holliday

The Orioles #1 prospect has just been promoted. Can’t we just recycle some material for this? We talk about what we expect from the young “second baseman,” and what we thought of his debut.

Second Base: The Other Kids

Now that we’ve talked about Jackson Holliday, we should talk about the other kids. No, not those kids. The other, other kids. Everyone talks about Adley and Gunnar. But we want to acknowledge the moment that Cowser and Westburg are having.

Third Base: NOT too early?

What is it not too early jump to conclusions about? We discuss what the sample size does and does not tell us.

Home Plate: Rosturbation

The Orioles are playing with the edges of their 40 man roster. They have paid cash for a pitcher and they have picked up a position player for the second time on waivers. There was a time when we would have to care about things like this. Now, it’s just an organizational curiosity.

Fantasy Boss

Jake takes an early lead, by correctly predicting that it would be Ramon Urias who collected a hit before Tony Kemp. To be fair, Kemp ended his Orioles tenure without collecting a hit, so… there’s that.

The score now stands at 1-0, Jake.

This week’s category is DONGS.

Scott took Anthony Santander

Jake went with Cedric Mullins

Who will own it?

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
