Episode 395: Heat Wave

Leading Off

The Orioles are all over the national discussion in relation to All Star excellence. It’s a good time to be an Orioles fan. After a summer hiatus, Bird’s Eye View dabbles in All Star potpourri, and says mean things about billionaires.

This Week on the Socials

Around the Bases

First Base: All-Star Potpourri

  • All-Star uniform ideas
  • Corbin Burns, ASG starter?
  • All-Star snub malarky!
  • Jordan Westburg is an All-Star!
  • Why are we being asked to vote for a ballboy?
  • Gunnar in the Home Run Derby!

Second Base: Is Craig Kimbrel… fine? Again?

After a terrible stretch of games earlier in the season, Craig Kimbrel has been effective. He’s been the closer that we envisioned when he came to Baltimore. He’s not the Kimbrel of old. He’s not The Mountain.

But he’s fine, again.

Third Base: Untouchables

The guys go through the list of Orioles top prospects, and make a determination of un/touchable for each. Please send route your angry emails to contact@birdseyeviewbaltimore.com.

Home Plate: Easy to watch

The Orioles have made it easy to watch. Not only has the team been winning, but the club has been offering ticket discounts, packages, and cool promotions to get fans in the door. It will be interesting to see what happens through the pennant race and the offseason – we’re finally getting to see (in real time!) what we have waited for: a good (great?) club, led by seemingly competent ownership.

Fantasy Boss

We pushed it. We pushed it real good.

Anthony Santander and Gunnar Henderson each hit five home runs in the time the guys were away. This keeps the score at 6-4. After failing to move things forward, Jake gets silly: the next category (an All-Star category) is this:

Which of the Orioles’ All Stars will have the best All Star Moment?

Is this dumb and subjective? Yes. Are we going to do it anyway? Of course we are.

If we can’t decide on an All Star Moment, then we’ll have a quantifiable backup category: whether or not Gunnar Henderson makes it to the final round of the Home Run Derby. Scott has the final round, and Jake has the “did not advance.”

Who will own it?

Who had a great week? Who had a tough week? Who made us ashamed to be Orioles fans? Find out in this week’s GB&U. The guys run through their Good, Bad, and Ugly for the week.

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
