Jeremy Guthrie Reacts to Braun
If you haven’t seen Jeremy Guthrie’s reaction on Twitter (@TheRealJGuts), to Ryan Braun’s suspension, it’s worth checking out. Guthrie was one of my favorite Orioles. He carried himself with savvy and integrity. On some very bad teams, he always had something insightful and self deprecating to say about his own poor performances, and something gracious to say about his teammates’ poor performances. There have been rumblings that he was unpopular in the clubhouse and that it got him run out of town. I don’t know if there is any truth to that, but from a fan’s perspective, I thought he represented the Orioles well.
What he tweeted today was not surprising. He’s active on social media, and wears his heart on his sleeve. Here’s a look at it all together:
I hope that players, as a whole, are taking PEDs more seriously. I hope they’re as outraged about it as fans and media pretend to be. The sport will never be clean – like so many things in life, it will never be perfect. But perhaps the charm of a game whose greatest stars fail 70% of the time will endure as baseball attempts to overcome its own failures.
