Orioles Get Older, Better?

The Orioles, so accustomed to being sellers in July, acquired veteran slugger Jim Thome from the Phillies yesterday. At this point in the season, he’s only had 62 at-bats, but will certainly get more as a DH.

Thome is 41, so here’s hoping that his back holds up this season. If so, there’s little reason to doubt that he will be an upgrade to the current 1B/DH pool.

Which brings us to this: with Thome holding down the every day DH role, what does that mean for Davis, Reynolds, and Betemit? Could be tough to find ways to keep them all in the lineup.

As long as Buck can keep Reynolds off third base…
