The Onion Strikes Again

The faux news site, The Onion (you know, the one that at least cops to their fake news) has taken some amusing stabs at Baltimore and/or the Orioles in the past. Yesterday, they added another to the list – publishing a “story” about the crack sales at the stadium being prohibited after the 7th inning.

Said fictitious director of ballpark operations:

We want our visitors to exercise moderation while they’re smoking crack and cheering on our Baltimore Orioles, and we feel this new rule will make that possible. From now on, fans who have been hitting the pipe all afternoon can take a bit of a breather to come down and stop tweaking out long enough to stagger home safely. That’s what Orioles baseball is all about.

I love The Onion, and whereas it stings a little that Baltimore’s claim to fame nationally is the kind of widespread drug use and lawlessness depicted in shows like The Wire, there is one ray of hope in this story:

For once, the butt of the joke is not the team’s play on the field. Thankfully, that particular nightmare is over.
