Too Much Excitement?

Excuse me while I crawl out of the hole I paced in my floor.

Tonight’s game was a roller coaster of emotion. Tillman looked terrible. Tillman looked dominant. Tillman looked as if he was falling apart again. Bats went silent. Bats went crazy. Bats went silent. Bullpen was clutch. Bullpen was shaky. Bullpen was clutch.

Keys to this game were obviously the grand slam by Nelson Cruz, but the contributions of the bottom of the lineup (in its ability to avoid killing rallies) should also be noted. Key relief from Webb and O’Day… there was a lot to love. There was a lot to hate. There was a lot to love again.

The Orioles and the Blue Jays are both teams with potent lineups and questionable starting pitching. When these two collide, games like this will occasionally happen. This game showed all the beauty and all the warts on this team – all at once.

But, a win, as they say, is a win.

The game was a wild ride, as the FanGraphs Win Probability graphic shows us. This could easily be titled “Team Responsible for Jake Crapping His Pants.”

Great win for the Orioles. Also for antacid makers.
